MOUNT ST THOMAS PUBLIC SCHOOL

 Revised  June, 2002

PERFORMANCES IN SCHOOLS POLICY

RATIONALE:

Mount St Thomas School is committed to developing children’s appreciation and enjoyment of the arts in all its forms as part of  their education. Observation of, and participation in, the performing arts, play significant and essential educational roles and assist all students to develop aesthetic, cognitive, social and physical skills.  The experience of live performances in our school is also valuable as it provides students with opportunities to develop standards of critical awareness and can stimulate the child’s ideas for participation and experimentation in the performing arts.

Performances of high quality are essential if students are to respond positively to these experiences.   With this is mind, quality performances are carefully selected to also ensure relevance to and support of our school’s programs and meet specific curriculum needs.  To this end, the wide range of performances offered includes drama, dance, mime, music, puppetry and other educational presentations related to the many K.L.A’s of  the curriculum.
