Operation Art is a program which encourages young people to create artworks for children in hospital.

The idea is an initiative of The Children's Hospital and The Art Gallery of NSW.  It is sponsored by Penrith Regional Gallery and the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation with support from many other sponsors.

Each year 50 Operation Artworks are chosen to become part of the Hospital's permanent art collection, which includes sculptures, paintings and prints.  As well as great art by grown-ups, the hospital wanted to make sure they had artwork by kids too. 

Last year's 50 selected artworks are still touring major regional galleries around the State.  The new show will again tour the galleries in 2005.

Mount St Thomas Public School has been involved with Operation Art for many years.
