Home Maths SchemeTwo things that parents often ask teachers at interviews is, “Is my child’s maths at an acceptable level?” and, “How do I know where my child is supposed to be up to?” We have tried to address these questions in the Maths area by developing our Home Maths Scheme. Over the last twelve months staff at Mount St Thomas have developed a Home Maths Scheme where children progress through Levels 1 to 50. The children have been highly motivated and involved as they see the levels as a ‘ladder’ that they can ‘work through’ and ‘climb’ the steps. |

The Mount St Thomas Public School
Home Maths Scheme consists of a graded set of worksheets in 50 levels
covering concepts in Number from Years 1-6. Each level contains 60
worksheets with answers on the back. Children are encouraged to take home
one worksheet per night to help consolidate accuracy and skill in Number.
Some levels concentrate on one concept only (e.g. addition facts to 20),
while levels higher in the Scheme may address 2 or 4 concepts within
the level. In this way all Number concepts are covered from Year 1 to early secondary in Year 7. Raising the standard of Maths for each child continues to be a focus at Mount St Thomas. This is very much a joint effort between teaching staff and parents. |

| Children work at an individual level and progress through
the levels after successfully completing progression tests which may be
attempted on one day each week in class. Children keep their own records of
completed sheets on green and gold recording sheets. The green sheet keeps a record of completed sheets within a level and the gold sheet is a progressive record which signals when an award is due. |
