Corks

Over 40,000 corks are collected annually by the school community for Wollongong Cancer Carers. The corks are recycled into tiles and placemats.

Stamps

Stamps collected in the office, are sent to Sydney for sorting. It helps the Church Mission Society raise $28,000 annually for community aid.

 

 

Soap Savers

Orange bag soap savers tied to the taps prolong soap life and make great scrubbing brushes.

 

 

Awards

Our School Foyer proudly displays our many achievements, highlighted by winning the Prime Minister’s Young Australia Award for Environmental Achievement in Schools in 2000. This prestigious award celebrates our school’s excellence, innovation and enterprise in the pursuit of a sustainable nation.

Mount St Thomas Public School was awarded the NSW Sustainable Schools Program’s Outstanding School Award in 2004.

The Sustainable Schools Program (SSP) has been developed through a partnership of the Department of Education and Training, Resource NSW and funding assistance from Environment Australia.  The program facilitates development, implementation and review of School Environment Management Plans by schools in NSW in order to encourage and support the shift by Schools towards Sustainable practices.    We are a lighthouse school for our waste management programs, our school grounds, our initiatives and our environmental curriculum programs.

Media

With our high profile, children gain confidence speaking about the environment in all kinds of situations from talking to important guests, giving a short speech or replying to questions from the media – radio, newspapers & TV.
