COMPUTER POLICY STATEMENT

RATIONALE:

Computers and related technologies are growing in importance and impact on society and education. It is essential to provide children with learning experiences that will enable them not only to cope with, but be confident with and able to use technology. These skills will aid the students as they progress further in education and ultimately into society itself.

OUTCOMES:

  • High level of hands-on for all pupils.
  • Positive attitudes demonstrated by children.
  • Demonstrated level of expertise in: word processing, information retrieval, databases, spreadsheet, typing,  internet, research.
  • Awareness of technical change and its effects on education and society.

GUIDELINES:

  • Regular review of in-school practices.
  • Commitment to keeping abreast of technology and educational directions.
  • Commitment to providing high student access to computers.
  • Outside/parent expertise encouraged where educationally valid.

IMPLEMENTATION:

  • All classes have access to computer room each week.
  • All classes have access to networked computers in classrooms.
  • All computers linked via network providing equity of access to software and internet.
  • Lunch time access to pupils under supervision.
