ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES

ABSENCES

A WRITTEN EXPLANATION is required for all absences and must include date or dates of absence. This is a legal requirement.   A telephone call advising of possible prolonged absences is appreciated but a note is still required on resumption. Home School Liaison officers are available to assist the school where irregular attendance is considered to be a factor in pupil progress or welfare.

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL

CHILDREN SHOULD NOT ARRIVE AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8.30 am. No responsibility for pupil safety will be accepted prior to this time.  Where there are serious family reasons for a child to arrive earlier, on a regular basis, a written request for this to be permitted should be made.  The desire for an early game or to meet friends is not an acceptable reason.  Children arriving early will be required to sit quietly until 8.30am.  No games are to be played.  Children arriving late after classes have entered rooms must obtain a late note from the office.

DEPARTURE

In Term 1, Weeks 1 – 2, Kindergarten children will be dismissed at 2.30 pm.  Arrangements should be made to have children collected promptly at that time.  From Term 1 Week 3 onwards Kindergarten children will leave the school at 3.00 pm with all other children.  If parents or carers are delayed, the school should be advised so that appropriate supervision can be provided as Kindergarten teachers have other duties after their classes cease.  Children should seek the assistance of a teacher or school assistant if their parent is late.  It is not wise to wait for lengthy periods at the school gate.  Parents are asked to wait near the gates until children have been escorted from class.  Parents or carers who wish to collect a child before the recognised end of the school day should either:

  1.  Send a note to the class teacher advising them of the pick-up time OR

  2.  Obtain a note from the office to give to the teacher when collecting your child.  This action is necessary to ensure the whereabouts and safety of children at all times.

BICYCLES

Pupils in Years 3-6 are permitted to ride bicycles to school provided that:

  • bikes are chained to the bike rack
  • the bike is in a road-safe condition, brakes, etc are all operational
  • the bike is wheeled and not ridden inside the school grounds
  • all riders wear a helmet
